CIRTL Network Courses

Online graduate courses from the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) Network allow you to interact with faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students from nearly 40 research universities. All participants who successfully complete course activities and assignments will receive a letter of completion. Optional local credit is available for some online CIRTL courses upon request, through a graduate individual study course number at the participant’s home institution. Cornell graduate students or postdocs interested in enrolling for independent study credit should contact Dr. Colleen McLinn at by the second week of the semester.

Planning Your Teaching-as-Research Project

Tuesdays, June 22 through July 27 – 2-3:30PM ET

Jumpstart your plans for a Teaching-as-Research project in this 6-week course designed to guide participants through developing a research question, identifying project methods and outcomes, and more. Cap: 20.

First Year Faculty Teaching Academy

Tuesdays through Thursdays, July 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22​​ – 2:30-4:30PM ET

Explore teaching and learning fundamentals in this intensive 2-week course (typically 6 weeks) designed for future and early career faculty. Cap: 50.

Research Mentor Training

Wednesdays, June 2 to July 7 (no class on June 16) – 10AM-12PM ET 

Develop your mentoring skills and knowledge in this intensive 5-week seminar designed for graduate students and postdocs with mentoring experience. Cap: 20.

Transforming Your Research Into Teaching

Wednesdays, June 16 to July 28 – 3-4PM ET

Learn how to build a course out of your research specialty in this 7-week course that guides grad students and postdocs through the fundamentals of course design. Cap: 20.

An Introduction to Evidence-Based Undergraduate STEM Teaching (Massive Open Online Course, or MOOC)

Learn about STEM teaching at your own pace through online video modules and discussion boards in this 8-week MOOC developed by CIRTL Network faculty. No cap. Registration opens 5/17.
