The North American CIRTL Network offers a range of online workshops, webinars, and event series to help graduate students and postdocs refine their teaching approaches as they advance through their academic careers, including:
CIRTL Network Events
These drop-in online events for graduate students and postdocs usually last one hour and are led by faculty and staff from the CIRTL Network universities. The format is an interactive live presentation and discussion, and attendance is open to all through a browser or mobile app, with no advance registration deadlines or size caps. However, make sure you have signed up for a free CIRTL Network account, and then register at the event page to receive the link to the web conferencing room for each event you would like to attend.
Current event series include:
- Engaging Students through High-Impact Practices
- Exploring Careers in Teaching at a Community College
Online CIRTL Workshops
CIRTL Network online workshops include one or a few interactive online sessions with assignments before and after to help participants develop a specific, concrete product such as a job search document or a teaching activity. Although workshops are free, most are limited in attendance size and require advance registration by the date indicated on the event page. Some workshops may also have specific audiences.
Recent CIRTL online workshops include:
CIRTL Teaching as Research Series
The CIRTL Teaching as Research series brings together graduate students, postdocs, and faculty from across nearly 40 research universities through web conferencing to discuss design and methodology for classroom research projects, share useful resources, present preliminary results, and get constructive advice. Advance registration policy depends on the event type, but there is a virtual symposium of Teaching as Research projects each year open to anyone who is interested in attending. Make sure you have signed up for a free CIRTL Network account, and then register at the event page to receive the link to the web conferencing room for each event you’d like to attend.
CIRTL Alumni Network
Have you attended CIRTL programming before? Have you finished your graduate or postdoctoral education? CIRTL invites you to join the CIRTL Alumni Network to stay connected with our work and your peers. Coming up, CIRTL is hosting a special workshop exclusively for the Alumni Network on effective online teaching, just in time to prepare for fall; new members will receive an invitation to the workshop after joining the network.
