DESCRIPTION:The Humanities Scholars Program\, an undergraduate research initiative in the College of Arts & Sciences\, invites applications from Cornell PhD candidates and recent Cornell PhDs for one-year postdoctoral associate positions beginning August 1\, 2026. HSP Postdocs teach\, mentor\, and run workshops for advanced undergraduates in the Humanities Scholars Program. Each position offers a salary of $67\,000/year and a $2\,000 research fund for the year. Two Postdoctoral Associates will be appointed. \nJoin faculty director\, Verity Platt\, for a virtual information session about these two position openings and get your questions answered. \nApplications are due February 3\, 2026. SUMMARY:Information Session: Rita Levi Montalcini Scholarship from the Dompé Foundation
DESCRIPTION:Established in 2020\, the Dompé Foundation is committed to supporting the university education of talented young individuals in STEM fields\, ultimately contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the exploration of new research areas\, particularly in the life sciences. More specifically\, it aims at breaking down financial barriers to higher education for aspiring scientists and researchers who possess talent and determination\, but lack the necessary economic resources to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate studies in STEM disciplines. \nOn Monday\, December 1\, staff from Weill Cornell Medicine and the Cornell Graduate School in Ithaca will be hosting an information session with the Dompé Foundation about the Rita Levi Montalcini scholarship program\, which financially supports students of all nationalities already admitted to a master’s\, Ph.D. or post-doctoral program in neuroscience and/or neurobiology at a US university. \nSince 2021\, the Rita Levi Montalcini Scholarship – named for the1986 Nobel laureate who co-discovered nerve growth factor – has supported over 50 scholars enrolled at U.S. universities with 2-3 years of supplemental funding. The application deadline is January 31\, 2026 and this info session will include information from the foundation staff as well as a panel of scientists who have been supported by this scholarship. \nPlease complete the Zoom registration link in order to attend this information session. Through a blend of narrative therapy\, creative arts therapy\, and mindfulness techniques\, participants will address the psychological barriers that impede writing progress. The workshop offers therapeutic writing exercises and group discussions\, fostering resilience\, self-compassion\, and creative freedom. Guided by professionals skilled in both therapy and academia\, “Thesis Therapy” provides a supportive environment for overcoming writer’s block and managing academic stress\, promoting personal and academic growth.

DESCRIPTION:Figuring out how to navigate the publishing process successfully can be mysterious and challenging. At this online round table for CNY Humanities Corridor faculty\, postdocs\, and graduate students\, area university press editors demystify the process by discussing the questions they most often hear from authors and answering questions from the audience. Among the questions they will address: \n\n\n\nHow do I find the publishers most likely to be interested in my project?\nWhen’s the best time and what’s the best way to approach an acquisitions editor?\nWhat goes into a book proposal and what makes a proposal most likely to succeed in convincing the press to invite the manuscript?\nCan I send proposals to more than one publisher at a time? What about the full manuscript?\nHow long should I wait to hear back from an acquisitions editor?\nHow does the peer review process work and how long does it usually take?\nWhat happens after my manuscript is accepted…or rejected?\nWhat about contracts? When should I expect to be offered one and what should I look for in it?\nIs it okay if I’ve already published some articles out of my book manuscript?\nI published my first book several years ago. What should I be mindful of this time around? What does it mean if my previous publisher won’t publish my newest manuscript?\nWhat happens after I submit my final manuscript?
