Associate
Participants at the Associate level of achievement have demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching and research-based practices in a variety of learning environments. Associates are acknowledged for their commitment to learning and engaging with the core principles that enhance evidence-based teaching. Those with Associate status are prepared to implement research-based best practices in different learning environments in order to achieve learning goals and to recognize diversity in learning and mentoring needs.
Eligibility
While open to the Cornell community, the primary audience for Future Faculty and Academic Careers certificates is graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Please contact us if you have questions about your eligibility.

Benefits
Participants who have received Associate Status are eligible to apply for a $500 stipend to assist with the material costs of conducting a Teaching as Research project. This stipend can be used to purchase materials or to subsidize further training. Associates can also apply for Travel Grants to pursue outside training opportunities in evidence-based teaching.
Requirements
Participants applying for the Associate status must demonstrate understanding of the CIRTL Core Ideas, as well as indicate potential to incorporate these ideas in their teaching. Participants may elect either a course path or an independent path in order to satisfy these requirements.

Course Path
The majority of learning requirements for this path are met through coursework.
1. Complete one of the following courses:
- ALS 6015: Teaching in Higher Education
- The College Classroom (CIRTL Network online course)
- An Introduction to Evidence-Based Undergraduate STEM Teaching (massive open online course through EdX)
- Equivalent course from another university (with documentation)
2. Attend at least one workshop addressing Learning through Diversity outcomes (e.g., inclusive teaching practices) sponsored by Future Faculty and Academic Careers or another unit. Explore the list of Qualifying Learning through Diversity workshops (.xls)
3. Submit a short statement about your teaching philosophy which also addresses your understanding/implementation of the CIRTL Core Ideas (suggested length: 200-500 words).
Independent Path
This path asks students to demonstrate through reflection and documentation that they have gained the knowledge and skills addressed in the course track.
1. Attend at least one workshop addressing Learning Community outcomes
2. Attend at least one workshop addressing Learning through Diversity outcomes. Explore the list of Qualifying Learning through Diversity workshops (.xls)
3. Attend at least three additional workshops sponsored by Future Faculty and Academic Careers or the Center for Teaching Innovation

Attend at least one full-day teaching institute sponsored by Future Faculty and Academic Careers or the Center for Teaching Innovation
4. Submit a statement about your teaching philosophy which also addresses your understanding/implementation of the CIRTL Core Ideas (suggested length: 400-800 words for those pursuing the independent path).
