Get a thorough introduction to CIRTL’s approach to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and work with disciplinary peers to develop a micro-teaching project in this week-long online institute. Cap: 36.

CIRTL Summer Teaching Institute at University of British Columbia

This 8-day institute consists of teaching practice, theory application, and topical sessions specifically relevant to STEM graduate students and scholars new to teaching. Due to COVID-19 this institute will take place online. Cap: 25.

The Johns Hopkins Teaching Institute

Tuesday through Thursday, June 8-11 – 8:30AM – 3PM ET

Learn common themes and challenges of teaching in higher ed during this 4-day institute. Due to COVID-19 this institute will take place online. Cap: 20.

6th CIRTL Forum

Preparing Future Faculty as Change Leaders Toward Inclusive STEM Higher Education

Drexel University
October 13-15, 2019

Over Cornell fall break, join future faculty, current faculty, and university leaders focused on improving undergraduate STEM education at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. Registration due August 1, 2019.

At this NSF-supported gathering, participants will explore topics such as:

• Preparing future faculty to enhance the success of all students
• Promoting diversity in STEM through evidence-based pedagogy
• Change leadership in undergraduate STEM education

The CIRTL Forum will also include a poster session highlighting Teaching as Research projects and future faculty development program results.

Summer 2019

Cornell graduate students and postdocs are invited to register for multi-day teaching institutes being hosted across the CIRTL Network in Summer 2019. Some institutes provide meals or partial lodging. If you are a Cornell community member interested in applying for travel reimbursement contact Dr. Colleen McLinn at futurefaculty@cornell.edu as soon as possible after applying to the desired institute. Preference will be given to participants in CIRTL certificate programs.

Join us at EBIT, a five-day, four-hour per day summer institute for postdocs and new faculty that uses the engineering principles of “Design, Build, Test, and Iterate” to develop course content and assessments. Take part in a genuine student-centered learning experience that will help you in your job search or help start your job off right! Topics addressed in this institute include: Educational research techniques, learning objectives, targeted assessments, active teaching strategies, and other CIRTL Core Ideas.

One-Day Regional Institute: Teaching at Teaching-Intensive Institutions

The University of Massachusetts Amherst, a CIRTL Network institution, co-sponsored “Teaching at Teaching Intensive Institutions” on Friday, October 6, 2017. The one-day, face-to-face teaching institute took place at Westfield State University in Westfield, Massachusetts.

The day-long institute introduced graduate students and postdocs to faculty careers at teaching-intensive institutions. Many faculty enjoy rewarding careers at colleges and universities that primarily emphasize teaching, including liberal arts colleges, community colleges, and regional comprehensive universities. This event provided participants with a valuable opportunity to learn from and network with faculty and deans from a range of teaching-intensive institutions across the New England region.
